Welcome to Week 3 of the Hellohire guide on How to Host a Virtual Career Fair!
If you have been following along so far, you should have a solid understanding of what important questions to ask yourself while planning your career fair, and how to allocate a realistic budget to ensure your career fair is as successful as can be.
Let’s take a look at Step 3.
Step 3: Pick a platform
Before exploring your platform choices, you need to consider which features are must-haves and which are nice-to-haves. For example, a must-have feature for your career fair might be video chat capabilities, while a nice-to-have feature might be timed conversations.
You also need to consider the usability of each platform from the perspective of both an attendee and an exhibitor. Think about the age of your target attendees… will they know how to use an online platform? Is something high-tech the best option, or should you keep it simple? When thinking about your exhibitors, it is always best to keep it simple and choose a platform that has an easy-to-use system on the exhibitor side.
Most importantly, ensure that the platform fits within your budget.
We know that there’s a lot to think about when choosing a platform, so we’ve put together a list of essential questions to ask yourself throughout the process:
- Is it compatible with all devices?
Tip: Not everyone has a laptop or desktop, mobile might be the easiest way for some people to attend.
- Are there public and private video and text chat capabilities?
- Will tech support be included?
- Does it provide post-event analytics?
Tip: One of the best kinds of feedback you can receive is data. This should be a must-have feature.
- Is there resume sharing?
- How many participants can it support at once?
Tip: Once you know how many participants you are expecting to attend, make sure the platform you choose can support double that amount.
- Is there a learning curve?
- Is it accessible to those with varying abilities?
There are many different platforms available, and it can certainly be overwhelming. Just remember to stay within your budget, keep your must-have features in mind, and answer the above questions honestly while assessing your top platforms.
